Leadership is a word that will never be separated from the development of a business. The more rapid the desired growth and the longer the expected sustainability, the more important it is to develop leadership skills in a company.
Without good leadership skills, policies will only become notes and even debates without implementation. There can also be reckless implementation without knowledge. Meaning of Leadership Skills
The meaning of leadership skills is the ability of a leader to build a long-term vision while remaining focused on short-term targets, through resource management including managing change and developing people within so they can develop the organization together.
Leadership skills are the most difficult skills to teach, because leadership is a journey. We will not be able to lead other people (leading team), until we are able to lead ourselves (leading self). The leadership dimension penetrates the professional boundaries of work, entering deep personal capacities.
The values that develop within a person become the color that forms a person’s leadership. So, according to John C Maxwell in his book “The 5 Levels of Leadership“, the highest level of leadership for a leader is when someone follows him because of his exemplary attitude, personality and values.
The importance of leadership skills means that leadership training should start from the beginning, namely from when personal values are formed. Leadership Training itself can be started when we enter aqil and puberty. Aqil puberty is the phase of life where we are ready mentally and physically to take responsibility for our every action. This is when the burdens of sharia (according to Islam) have been imposed, and the journey of leading self begins. At this stage, we are personally held responsible for what we do.
Self-leadership starts with two main keywords:
- There are additional burdens, in the form of obligations that must be completed.
- Cultivate a sense of responsibility
After completing self-leadership, the next step is that we are expected to be able to lead other people and teams. At this stage, the two key words at the beginning reappear with more burdens or obligations and heavier responsibilities. Not only are we responsible for our own actions, we also have to be able to take responsibility for what our team members do.

These values of responsibility must be present in a leader even from the early stages of self-leadership. He must have a high sense of belonging to himself, the people he leads, and the organization where he belongs and works.
Before learning much about leadership, the fundamental thing that you must understand as a leader is understanding that there are additional burdens or greater obligations and responsibilities. If you understand the nature of a leader as a bearer of burdens and responsibilities, then you will avoid feeling “surprised” on every journey.
